The period of classic musical comedy is rich with vibrant characters and show-stopping tunes! Students will begin with the 1930 hit Girl Crazy, and will travel through the '30s, '40s and '50s learning comedic songs and monologues from Anything Goes, Babes in Arms, The Boys from Syracuse, Guys and Dolls, Damn Yankees, and Once Upon a Mattress. Songs include “Embraceable You", “Falling in Love With Love", and “Heart". The classic period of musical theatre boasts some of the most memorable performances in American history. Students will create their own vignettes featuring dramatic songs and monologues from musicals of the 1920s through the 1950s, including Show Boat, Okahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, My Fair Lady, and Cinderella. Songs include “You’ll Never Walk Alone", “Ol’ Man River", “I’m an Ordinary Man", and “Oh What a Beautiful Mornin'".
