The 16th annual Oregon Festival of American Music will be a milestone, as longtime Jazz Advisor Dick Hyman hands his baton to jazz clarinet master Ken Peplowski. Dick will be on hand throughout the first week of the festival to lend Ken an able hand as we begin our journey through the fabulous worlds of Richard Rodgers.
As usual, the opening gala concert in the Hult Center's grand Silva Concert Hall offers up an overview of what's in store for the entire 10 days. Ken's invited a great line up to join him and Dick, including guitar master Bucky Pizzarelli, soprano Maria Jette (who wowed everyone last year with her easy command of the American standard from elegant to sassy), Bill Hulings, Shirley Andress, our beloved song and dance man, Ian Whitcomb, and the Festival big band, staffed the usual suspects.
Songs include "The Sweetest Sounds", "My Funny Valentine", "The Blue Room", "Isn't It Romantic", "I Cain't Say No", "Some Enchanted Evening", "The Sound Of Music", "Where Or When", and more.
We encourage you to take a 10 day vacation and come to every OFAM 2007 concert (hey, how can you refuse!), but if you can manage only a few concerts, this should definitely be one of them!
