Alfred Hitchcock, Director & Producer
Bernard Herrmann, Composer (score)

Although it received only mixed reviews and moderate box office receipts when it was released in 1958, Vertigo is perhaps Hitchcock's most controversial films and is now considered by many to be one of the top 10 films of all time. Vertigo is based on the French thriller D'entre les mortes which weaves an intricate web of obsessive love and death. James Stewart stars as a private investigator who discovers he has vertigo and falls in love with a dillusionary woman he is hired to follow played by Kim Novak. In a classic, wordless Hitchcock sequence, Stewart follows Novak around 1950s San Francisco set to Herrmann's superb score.
