An evening with Ann Hampton Callaway
Friday, August 5, 7:30 pm
Jaqua Concert Hall - The Shedd Institute
To truly understand the jazz potential of Porter's songs, it takes the right interpreter, and Ann Hampton Callaway is surely one of the best. "Sure she can deliver an evening of bouncy show tunes, vaguely risqué novelties and torchy ballads with the best of them," writes JazzTimes critic Christopher Loudon, "But as so much of the Callaway canon so ably demonstrates, she's also a superbly intelligent, singularly creative pop-jazz stylist who can stand shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Streisand, Ronstadt, Shirley Horn and Dianne Reeves." Callaway's sumptuous takes on Porter's classics, including "Love for Sale", "Just One of Those Things", "What Is This Thing Called Love?", "My Heart Belongs To Daddy" and "Night and Day", will make this intimate concert at The Shedd an event not to be missed. As always Dick Hyman and band (including Peter Appleyard, Randy Sandke, Frank Capp, Doug Miller, Mike Denny) lend nonpareil support. (Don't miss Ann Hampton Callaway on Thursday, Aug 4th at Silva's OFAM 2005 Opening Gala Concert as well!)
