Shedd Institute Executive Director Jim Ralph hosts a morning of classic silent comedies by the 3 undisputed masters of the form, Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin and Harold Lloyd. There are so many great films by these and other giants of the genre…and so little time! This morning offers full viewings of Keaton's 1920 One Week (which was released immediately prior to his Neighbors which will be featured with an original score by festival music director Chuck Redd as a part of When You're Smiling on March 2 and March 5 matinee), Chaplin's 1921 masterpiece The Kid, and Lloyd's 1919 confection Young Mr. Jazz, together with a selection of 3 exquisite examples of Keaton's, Chaplin's and Lloyd's extarordinary craftsmanship of which he is particularly fond.
