Background, professional training and performance history
Phoebe began her musical career at age three on the piano and joined her first choir at age nine. Although her degree is in classical voice, she has always had a passion for musical theater, which is what prompted her to start taking voice lessons in the first place. Phoebe’s favorite styles to sing are opera, musical theater, cabaret, and art song; she makes a point of studying diverse styles. She learned and performed in the Eugene community while she was growing up and then moved to California to earn her Bachelor of Music degree at Chapman University. She spent the summer of 2012 abroad in Austria, studying voice with the American Institute of Musical Studies.
Phoebe has performed locally in musicals, voice and piano recitals, and plays. She recently joined Eugene Opera and the Artist Mentorship program.
Artist statement and teaching philosophy
“I believe that everyone is capable of connecting with and creating music. My job as a teacher is to help students find the ways in which they personally connect with music, regardless of style. I tailor my teaching to my students’ goals and needs while always working with the grounding philosophy that making music is a skill that anyone can learn given time, patience, and practice. I hold my students to their own goals and standards and I encourage an ongoing conversation between students (and parents) and I about what they want to take away from lessons.”
