The classic period of musical theatre (roughly 1941 to 1965) boasted some of the most memorable performances in American theatre history. Students will create their own vignettes featuring dramatic songs and monologues from musicals including The Wizard of Oz, Man of La Mancha, South Pacific, The King and I, My Fair Lady, and Cinderella. Songs include “Getting to Know You,” “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “Some Enchanted Evening,” “The Impossible Dream,” and “Stranger in Paradise.”
Classic Musicals is the 2nd of 3 summer camps offer by The Shedd Institute as a part of its 2014
Musical Theatre Sampler program for youth 5th-8th grade.

At the Musical Theatre Sampler Camp, each student receives a “tool kit” of songs and monologues from which to draw for auditions and performances. Each day begins with a physical and vocal warm up, followed by learning songs and monologues according to the week’s theme. Each student will learn and perform one group song, one gender-appropriate group song, one solo song and two monologues. Students will also learn from “master performers” in listening and viewing sessions. Each camp culminates in a dress rehearsal and final performance of all music and acting studied during the week.
