Siri Vik: Save For Later
Sun, May 3, 3:00 - 5:00 pm
Jaqua Concert Hall, The Shedd Institute
Designing a show around a theme is a little like telling a story, with songs. Numbers that make it onto the set list, remain for a compelling reason: they’re an essential part of the story. But that rigor of creating a set list can be a painful process! I’ve come across countless songs that are wonderful on their own that I’ve really wanted to perform, but they don't fit into the theme at hand. Then there are the songs,\ I’ve had in my back pocket for years, not a part of any show consideration. As I file through music at home, a handful still tug at me, or seem to still personally resonate with me. They are in the Save For Later box.
That's what this show is about.
Not since our first recital at The Shedd in 2009 have Nathalie and I performed without a band. An evening of voice and piano feels like a fresh departure for us. Save For Later will be personal, intimate by default, and eclectic. We will pull in art song, stAndards and early Tin Pan Alley, some gems from our European cabaret shows, as well as Broadway and contemporary music. It will be an evening reminiscent of the cabaret rooms in New York, London and Europe.
