We open our 2024 Shedd Theatricals season with George & Ira Gershwin's fun-filled 1930 musical comedy Girl Crazy. The show marked the celebrated Broadway debut of Ethel Merman, the second stage musical for Ginger Rogers and was the 7th and second-to-last pure musical comedy scored by the Gershwins. It also is one of their best, combining a high-powered, lighthearted book by the Broadway veterans Guy Bolton and John McGowan, with one of the great scores of the golden age of musical comedy, containing more hit songs than any other Gershwin show and more than just about any musical in history.
