The Shedd welcomes SYJO, The Shedd Youth Jazz Orchestra, in its Fall 2017 concert, at The Shedd Recital Hall. This band, under the direction of jazz trumpeter, Tony Glausi, is composed of the most talented young players in the area. The concert will feature the rhythm section with selected soloists performing their favorite jazz standards and originals along with the entire big band as they present everything from classic repertoire of the 1930s to music from artists of today.
Two big bands in one night! Come enjoy a FREE concert filled with top-notch jazz and Eugene's best pizza. The Shedd Youth Jazz Orchestra is an exciting new project of the John G. Shedd Institute for the Arts; it provides the most talented local students the opportunity to rehearse and perform professional big band repertoire together weekly. The University of Oregon's Lab Band, composed primarily of the top young college players, can be heard most often opening up for the Oregon Jazz Ensemble. Both bands are under the direction of Tony Glausi.
SYJO performs "Emancipation Blues" (Oliver Nelson), "Freddie Freeloader" (Miles Davis), Boogie Blues" (Gene Krupa), and "Change Of Plans" (Tony Glausi).
