No study of musical theatre would be complete without contemporary favorites such as Cats, Jekyll and Hyde, Les Misérables, Mamma Mia!, and Into the Woods. Songs included in student rehearsal and performance include favorites such as; “This is the Moment”, “No One is Alone”, “Music of the Night”, “Seasons of Love”, and “On My Own”.
The Modern Musical is the 3rd of 3 summer camps offered by The Shedd Institute as a part of its 2017
Musical Theatre Sampler program for youth 5th-8th grade.

At the Musical Theatre Sampler Camp, each student receives a “tool kit” of songs and monologues from which to draw for auditions and performances. Each day begins with a physical and vocal warm up, followed by learning songs and monologues according to the week’s theme. Each student will learn and perform one group song, one gender-appropriate group song, one solo song and two monologues. Students will also learn from “master performers” in listening and viewing sessions. Each camp culminates in a dress rehearsal and final performance of all music and acting studied during the week.
