I was born in Philadelphia many eons ago (1945 to be exact) and grew up mostly across the river in the New Jersey suburbs. Attended college at a small private school in New Haven, CT, majoring in economics and philosophy. During my junior year, met my wife Denise, and we will soon celebrate our 52nd anniversary. I'm sure that I was fortunate to find the only woman who would have put up with me for that long. Started my banking career in 1969 at Provident National Bank in Philadelphia, then spent seven years at a bank in Connecticut from 1973 to 1981, where our daughter was born in 1978. Moved to Kalamazoo, MI, in 1981 and spent twenty years there working for two different banks. Came to Eugene in 2001, working first for Washington Mutual and then for Sterling Bank, from which I retired (happily) on August 1, 2008, after a banking career of 39 years, 5 months and 28 days.
I'm proud to have been a Rotarian since 1974. Eugene Rotary, where I serve on the Scholarship Foundation board, is my third club after New Britain, CT, and Kalamazoo. In addition to Rotary, I served on the Eugene Symphony board for nine years, several years on the Greenhill Humane Society board and, since retiring, I do small business counseling through the local chapter of SCORE. My personal interests, in addition to good music and the arts in general, include bridge, reading (all those books I didn't have time for while working) and enjoying good food. I was for many years an avid golfer but now my back unfortunately doesn't like a golf swing. I also enjoy baseball and am a devoted Yankee fan.
