Background, professional training and performance history
Starting in ballet at age two, Christina transitioned into ballroom at eleven and began competing in ballroom dance at twelve. Christina has toured nationally in the United States and throughout Europe to compete in ballroom and learn from world recognized ballroom dance pros in intensive settings. She began teaching ballroom both at dance conventions and her hometown dance studios at sixteen. She continued to compete and teach ballroom dance through college and has taught dance at the college level in California.
With a special passion for teaching brand new beginner dancers, her focus on adapting her classes to fit the student's needs helps beginners get dancing more quickly while emphasizing the safety of new dancers still unsure of their steps and coordination. Christina is an active social dancer participating in the Northwest regional dance scene here in Eugene, in Portland, and in Seattle. If you catch her out around town, feel free to ask her to dance!
Artist statement and teaching philosophy
“I have an absolute passion for the connection of partner dancing and for helping non-dancers become dancers with ease and joy. To encourage a love of dancing from the start, to enable new dancers to get out in the local dance community and begin to participate without feeling daunted, intimidated or inadequate to the task; this is my goal. Partner dancing is all about the connection, the communication and the fun of it! My personal taste in dancing ranges from the floating elegance of Viennese Waltz to the low down goodness of Blues and Fusion dancing. I work with students to provide a sense of immediate musicality, so that students can hear a song on the radio, instantly recognize the beat structure, and stand up and dance in their kitchen right there and then. That immediate accessibility of dance makes my kitchen as much a dancing space as it is a cooking space."
