Background, professional training and performance history
Trevor started piano at the age of 7 and at the age of 12, was introduced to the trombone in his 6th grade band class. After graduating from Truckee High School in 2007, Trevor went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Trombone Performance from California State University, Chico. As a student, Trevor performed professionally and held the second trombone chair in The North State Symphony. During his final year as an undergraduate student, he studied abroad at the University of Reading in the United Kingdom. While in the UK, he submersed himself in the classical music scene of London and was second trombone in the Reading Symphony Orchestra.
The last three years Trevor has spent developing his skills as a world class mountaineer and he has spent the last three winters in Chamonix, France. Last winter before returning to Chamonix, he was a coach at the Sugar Bowl Ski Team and Academy where he helped aspiring alpine athletes develop the skills and mentality of a professional athlete. As a coach, he found a passion for teaching and inspiring young adults. Trevor acquired a ski guiding certification from the American Mountain Guide Association along with a teaching certification from the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education.
Trevor has had the privilege of being taught by dedicated mentors and would like nothing more than to give back to the music community through teaching. So much so, that he will be pursuing a Master’s Degree and teaching credential from the University of Oregon. Trevor looks forward to working with a broad range of musical skill levels and personalities.
Artist statement and teaching philosophy
My teaching philosophy is based in developing the passions of the student. Building a relationship with music is a lifelong endeavor and can provide a range of positive life outcomes. With a strong understanding of some basic fundamental principles, interacting with music can become an integral part of anyone’s life both as a listener and creator.
I strive to best attune to my students’ learning styles so that I can then draw from a multitude of theories to enable them to best understand concepts. As a music teacher, I heavily rely on audio and visual feedback to help students develop their own sound and style. Everything in life has a certain spot where it fits in and as musicians we need to listen to where our own intention best fits into the world. Music is a gift that we are fortunate to partake in. As an educator, my goal is to share the gift of music with as many as possible.
