Have you ever wanted to travel the world? Then grab your passport and join us on a musical vacation that will explore different cultures and music styles from around the world. We will explore drums from Africa, violins and pianos from Italy, ukuleles from Hawaii, flamenco guitars from Spain, tin whistles and bagpipes from Ireland, and—the oldest known instruments—flutes from India & China, and more! Each student will receive a passport and get to add to it with every culture we study. On their “travels”, participants will learn how music transcends verbal language barriers to express ideas; understand the role of music in conveying a society’s hopes, beliefs, and rituals; discover how music serves as an enduring cultural and historical record; and develop a broad music vocabulary to describe the musical contributions of many cultures. An end of camp performance will highlight our musical tour of instruments, songs, and cultural practice.

Each morning begins with a “warm up”, followed by learning the songs for the week’s theme. They will then get to learn about and play an instrument that has to do with the week’s theme. After a snack the campers will either get a chance to make their very own instrument or get dance instruction based on the theme. The campers end the day with a song circle to prepare them for their performance on Friday:
