Musical Theater Sampler is a set of 3 one-week music enrichment camps, each of which covers a different theme or period of American musical theatre. This year's themes are:
Musical Theatre Sampler camp you will get a “tool kit” of songs and monologues from which to draw for auditions and performances. Each student will learn at least two monologues, two solos, and one group song per week from each period: The Age of Musical Comedy (Funny Face, Babes In Arms, Girl Crazy, and Anything Goes), The Golden Age of Musical Theatre (Oklahoma!, Annie Get Your Gun, My Fair Lady, and On The Town), and The Modern Musical (Cats, Jekyll and Hyde, Les Misérables, Mamma Mia!, Into the Woods). Students will also learn from “master performers” in listening and viewing sessions. Each camp culminates in a dress rehearsal and final performance of all music and acting studied during the week.
Campers are invited to sign up for one week of camp or as many as 3! Each week, the songs learned in camp will be performed and recorded for a Musical Theatre Sample 2016 music compilation. Every camper will receive a copy of the CD as a souvenir of their Musical Theatre Sampler experience!
At the Musical Theatre Sampler Camp, each student receives a “tool kit” of songs and monologues from which to draw for auditions and performances. Each day begins with a physical and vocal warm up, followed by learning songs and monologues according to the week’s theme. Each student will learn and perform one group song, one gender-appropriate group song, one solo song and two monologues. Students will also learn from “master performers” in listening and viewing sessions. Each camp culminates in a dress rehearsal and final performance of all music and acting studied during the week.
