For more than a half-century, Brazilian popular music and US jazz have influenced one another. Brazilians admired jazz's harmonies, vocal styles, and instrumental improvisations. Jazz musicians loved Brazilian rhythm patterns, melodies, and performing energy. Brazilian singer Simone Da Silva and multi-percussionist Kimberly Cullen will join Carl Woideck's jazz group for an exciting exploration of his vital musical exchange from the 1940s on. Selections will include the (ironically) anti-US "Adeus America" and "Influencia do Jazz," along with "Jive Samba" and the gently swinging "Fotografia."
