ALICE BLANKENSHIP (violin) is concertmaster of the Oregon Mozart Players, section violinist with the Eugene Symphony and the Oregon Bach Festival, and co-director of microphilharmonic at the Shedd. Blankenship also performs on baroque violin with Southern Oregon Repertory Singers, Portland Baroque Orchestra, Santa Fe Pro Musica and Pacific Baroque Orchestra in British Columbia. As soloist, Blankenship has performed Lalo's Symphonie Espagnol with Salem Philharmonia; Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5 in A major, and the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with Willamette Valley Symphony; Vivaldi's Four Seasons, Bach's Brandenburg Concerto Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, and Haydn's Sinfonia Concertante with the Oregon Mozart Players. On Baroque violin, Alice has performed Telemann and Vivaldi Concerti with microphilharmonic baroque! and Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No.4 at First United Methodist Church. With Portland Baroque Orchestra, Blankenship accompanied soloist and leader Monica Huggett on recordings of Vivaldi violin concertos (2011). With Pacific Baroque Orchestra, Blankenship accompanied Marc Destrube on recordings of Haydn's three violin concertos (2003). Blankenship holds a Doctorate degree in Violin Performance and Music History from the University of Oregon, a Performer's Diploma in Early Music and Historical Performance Practice from the Royal Conservatory of the Netherlands in the Hague, and a Master's Degree in violin performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. As an undergraduate, Alice majored in Music and International Studies at the Clark Honors College of the University of Oregon. While a Doctoral student at the University of Oregon, Alice was awarded the Petri scholarship in 1998/1999, and the Gilkey scholarship in 1999/2000, which supported a two-year course of study in Historical Performance Practice in the Netherlands. Blankenship received the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Fellow award (2002), and the Outstanding Research in Performance award (2003) during Blankenship’s Doctoral degree. Alice's teachers include Kathryn Lucktenberg and Lawrence Maves at the University of Oregon; Monica Huggett, Enrico Gatti, and Pavlo Beznosiuk at the Hague; Ian Swenson at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music; Dorothy Delay and Won Bin Yim at Aspen Summer Music Festival; and Kato Havas at summer courses in Angwin, California and Oxford, England. Blankenship lives in Eugene, Oregon, with husband, clarinetist, and co-director of microphilharmonic, Michael Anderson, and their music-loving son, Francis.
