Calling all mariachis! Fernell López will lead a 2-week mariachi camp at The Shedd. If you are a middle or high school trumpet, guitar, harp or violin player (and/or want to sing in Spanish), join us for one of the most exciting music camp in town!
Adventurous players can try out the special fretless bass-line guitarrón and higher-pitched vihuela too. Shedd Music School trumpet, guitar, and violin faculty will provide some special focused skill training on individual instruments.
The group will learn traditional mariachi song forms, such as the bolero, canción, ranchera, son, huapango, and danzón, and favorite songs, such as Guadalajara, El Rey, De Colores, Volver and La Negra. At the end of the camp the mariachi will perform at The Shedd for family and friends.
At the end of the camp the mariachi will perform at The Shedd for family and friends on Friday, July 22 from 3-4 pm.
