A New Year, A New Music Journey
by Heidi Turnquist, Director of Education
With a New Year right around the corner, many of us are thinking of ways to enrich our lives. This year, why not get started, or return to, your own music-making journey? Whether your music-making is entirely for yourself, or something you want to share with others, The Shedd Music School has options to fit what works best for you.
If you are rekindling your love of an old instrument, consider why you paused in the first place. Too busy? There is no rule that says lessons need to be a certain length or frequency, and we want to make sure scheduling is accessible to everyone. No the right instrument or music style? We encourage all students to try as many instruments and instructors as they want until they find what is the right fit for them. We also offer inexpensive student instrument rentals so you can try different instruments without the big investment. Lessons too expensive? The Shedd offers need-based financial aid to ensure money is not a barrier to any student. We also offer semi-private lessons so you can split the lesson with a friend or family member, and flexible scheduling that can help music lessons fit into any budget.
Do you have a younger student interested in music, but you aren’t sure where to start? The Music Box offers beginning music theory, note reading, and piano skills, along with hands-on experience with a variety of instruments. Students get to try out a number of instruments and songs, which can help them discover what instrument is one they want to study further.
If you already play, but are interested in learning new music styles, give Mariachi del Shedd a try! Open to teens and adults, Mariachi del Shedd offers a beginning and advanced class throughout the term. Perfect for anyone looking to add a new genre to their repertoire while having fun and getting to be part of a performance group as well.
Whatever you are looking for, The Shedd Music School has an option that will help you continue on your music-making journey.
