Great Times! New Faces!
by Ginevra Ralph, Director of Education
Welcome back to Fall term classes and year-round lessons for all ages at The Shedd. The School is open 7 days a week, and we work hard to match your busy family schedules with flexible lesson timing. Meanwhile, these are momentous times in The Shedd’s 17 year history, as our major capital campaign Completes the Transformation of our wonderful – but decidedly aging – building into a more welcoming, accessible, energy efficient, and better functioning music school and performance center.
Over the past two years we have remodeled and added to the restrooms on all 4 floors of the Music School and dramatically changed the balcony and seating in the Jaqua Concert Hall. Next will be the start of work in the 1962 School wing to improve the sound attenuation, ambience, climate controls and much more efficient use of space. In early 2019 we plan to begin work on the bottom floor, converting 4 usable classroom and a variety of storage space into 12 new, fresh teaching spaces of different sizes. We will be staggering renovations so that lessons and classes don’t “miss a beat”!
You will see new Faculty faces this year. Among others, we are excited to welcome fiddler Donna Wynn, Connie Gardner (sax, clarinet), Carla Lamb (trumpet), Megan Letky (violin), and the fun Ladies of a Certain Age tap class! If you want to try an instrument, but don’t have one, give us a call – we can typically provide one to check it out.
