Of the many famous song-writing teams in the history of American popular music, none had a more closely linked identity than Rodgers and Hart. They wrote their first song together, "Any Old Place With You", in 1919. After several years of moderate success writing together and with others, they finally hit Broadway big time in the Garrick Gaieties of 1925. From that point until 1943, the year in which Hart died and Rodgers began collaborating with Oscar Hammerstein II, they wrote only as a team, producing one hit musical after another and, in the process, some of America's finest songs. 2002 is the centennial year of Rodgers' birth, so what better time to celebrate Rodgers and Hart's glorious collaborations?
