The golden age of American popular song is usually considered to be the period from the mid-1920s to the mid-1950s when the Gershwin's, Rodgers and Hart, Cole Porter and other Broadway songwriters were setting high standards. We sometimes overlook many of our most memorable and distinctive American songs that set the stage during the previous twenty years years--"Alexander’s Ragtime Band", "Poor Butterfly", "Back Home Again In Indiana", "My Melancholy Baby", "Bill Bailey, Won’t You Please Come Home", "After You’ve Gone" and many others. What is more, many of these numbers are still widely performed. The Jazz Kings will explore this gold mine of popular song. You may be surprised how long some of your own favorites have been around!
