Chuck Redd, his festival jazz unit and Bill Hulings and Siri Vik offer up When You're Smiling, an overview to this winter's 5-day contemplation of what we're dubbing "the birth of American popular music" during what historians often refer to as "The Roaring Twenties".
When You're Smiling is one of 2 OFAM 2022 Winter concerts presented twice:
Evening: Wed, Mar 2, 7:30 pm
Matinee: Sat, Mar 5, 1:30 pm
A special feature of this program will be Chuck's original accompaniment to Buster Keaton's 1920 classic silent short, The Neighbors. Look as well from a touch of all that we'll offer at OFAM 2022 Winter: fine period jazz from the mutually-influential but also decidedly different musical environs of New York, New Orleans, Chicago and the hinterlands; a sampling of songs from Broadway; and a touch upon the music of the fledgling sound film industry.
