Sat Aug 23, 12:00-1:30 pm
Soreng Theater, Hult Center
  • Description
“The beans aren’t salty!” is the title of one of the earliest songs recorded in the Louisiana creole music tradition known as Zydeco (in French pronunciation les haricot, “these beans”, slurs to sound like “zah-dee-ko” or “zydeco”). Zydeco is a musical style that emphasizes the accordion and the steel rub board made famous by Clifton Chenier. Nathan Williams will present a brief history of Zydeco from its roots in Creole juré, a capella singing, to the present day.
