Brother Can You Spare A Dime looks at some of the socially conscious music presented on the Broadway stage from 1928-1940… from the mainstream to the more explicit, socio-political material known as “agit-prop” theater. A handful of works has stood the test of time - classics from the likes of the Gershwin Brothers and Irving Berlin. Others are hidden gems. We’ve selected some of the best material musically and lyrically to bring you a revue of some truly funny, smart, at times heartbreaking songs that, for better or for worse, remain relevant today.
